The industry’s leading workshop teaching the principles of Lean thinking and Demand Flow Technology. Whether you are new to Lean or an expert you will deepen your perspective, knowledge and skills.
Course Description
This hands-on, 4-day program is designed for those new to lean as well as lean experts.
This workshop shows participants the benefits and pitfalls of Lean by using the robust skills and tools of Demand Flow Technology. This workshop illustrates the difference between Lean improvements and a total business strategy that is focused on improvement and customer demand. This workshop goes beyond the theory of Lean and builds on a foundation of execution.
Participants learn by doing. By using the basic building blocks of Lean thinking, participants are taught how to link Lean improvement to an overall business strategy and use the robust tools that DFT offers to accelerate a Lean transformation. The workshop is a mixture of lectures, videos, discussions, and hands-on simulations. The factory simulation will help you understand the concepts of flow, pull, takt time, kaizen, and work cell design in a total business system context.
Agenda and Workshop Overview
Day 1: Lean is a Philosophy, not a Strategy
Through hands-on simulations, case studies, and other interactive discussions, participants learn the fundamentals of Lean thinking and the foundational elements of Lean process design, Lean management and Lean improvement. Content covered includes:
- Lean Definitions and Practical Usage
- A Lean Case Study
- Lean Thinking: A new lens for business thinking
- Defining Lean Philosophy, Tactics and Strategy
- The Seven Types of Waste
- Lean Consensus: What is it?
- Visual Management and Process Standardization
- 5-S: The Visual Workplace
- Value Stream Mapping
Day 2: Lean Problem Solving & The DFT Toolbox
Day 2 begins with content that allows participants to connect the principles of Lean to improvement strategies that extend throughout an organization. The content covered includes:
The training continues with a simulation and full team debriefing of Lean improvements used in the hands-on exercise. Participants explore the pitfalls and enablers of a successful Lean journey. Following a wrap-up of Lean concepts, the tools of DFT are introduced to participants, including:
- Product Synchronizations
- Sequence of Events
- Takt time and Operational Cycle Time
- Demand at Capacity
- DFT Process Mapping
- Resource Calculation
- Line Balancing
Day 3: The Quantum Leap in Speed to Market
This day continues to explore the tools of DFT. Topics covered include:
- Employee Flexing
- Operational Method Sheets
- Operational Definition
- Linearity
- Material Kanban
- Employee Certification
- Line Wetting
This third day concludes with participants breaking into team to utilize the tools of DFT in a hands-on workshop.
Day 4: A Company-wide Business Strategy
The math and science of Demand Flow Technology are presented during this final day of training to illustrate the power of its application throughout a business. Working with our team of Lean instructors and DFT experts, participants develop action plans and Lean Roadmaps for a company transformation or specific project.
